Modern community commerce is the basis of city commerce and the important carrier to satisfy the comprehensive consumption of the residents. With the ceaseless lifting of Shanghai city position, commerce also escalates unceasingly. The significance of modern community commerce presents with the change of retail format and the continuous evolution of the business centre, and also shows some new characteristics. The great development of modern community commerce has provided strong social need for the theory studies of it. This paper discusses the space structures of modern community commerce based on Geography, Economics and Sociology, providing theoretical support for rational program and development. It presents four of the spatial layout mode based on the field surveys of Shanghai modern commercial community and the Modern Theory Analysis at home and abroad. Then some corresponding proposal and countermeasures are given toward the problem of space during the developing of modern community commerce in Shanghai.This paper conducts a study of the central area of Shanghai region. According to the practical situation in Shanghai, it empirically discusses the space of modern community commerce in the urban area. There are six chapters in all.Chapter 1 describes the concepts related to the modern community commerce and the background, the purpose, the significance of the study. It also explains the methods and means of research. Chapter 2 introduces the relevant theory of the community commerce and the research statement of it at home and abroad. Chapter 3 explores the dynamic mechanism of the modern community commerce evolution and the developing of it at home and abroad.Chapter 4 analyzes the hierarchical and spatial structure of Shanghai community commerce. Macroscopically it appears as follows: Scarce within the inner ring; comparatively reasonable between the inner and outer ring; with a rapid development beyond the outer ring, but too saturated in some regions. From microscopic view, it empirically studies the South Shopping Center, Qibao Town and Vanke City Garden. Then it discusses a lot of problems in the process of the development.Under the guidance of city business theory, Chapter 5 presents the four models of planning and construction of commercial space structure: the large-scale community commercial mart centering on community shopping mall; the community commercial center at the core of the GMS; the community commercial mart centering on supermarket and mall and the neighborhood commercial mart centering on convenience stores. And then it gives some countermeasures toward the problem during the developing of modern community commerce. Chapter 6 summarizes the main thesis and suggestions put forward in this paper.
