Make Better Use Of FDI To Promote The Foreign Trade Level Of Nantong

After the reform and opening, China has taken vigorous action to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and become the largest receiver of FDI in the world. FDI has been the strongest factor improving foreign trade growth and optimizing the industrial structure. At the same time, China has made great achievement in export-oriented economy.Based on Nantong's situations, with interpretive and normative approaches, this thesis applies theoretical analysis and empirical research to analyzing the development of FDI and foreign trade and analyzing the influences and mechanism of FDI on foreign trade in Nantong. This thesis also analyze the deficiency to promote the development of foreign trade with FDI and try to offer some countermeasures to create better conditions and to promote the development of foreign trade in Nantong, using the advantages of Nantong as the first group coastal cities opening to the outside world.This thesis focuses on the followings:1. using FDI and the relative theories of International Trade, analyzing the whole situation of promoting foreign trade with foreign investment in Nantong, and stating the relevancy of FDI and the development of local foreign trade in Nantong; Using the econometrics approach, analyzing empirically the influences of FDI on economic growth,foreign trade scale,commodity composition,market structure,growing method and etc. and approving the high relevancy of FDI on export trade in Nantong;2. trying to evaluate scientifically and objectively the current development of using foreign investment and foreign trade in Nantong, and pointing out the problems in promoting the economic structure and foreign trade and analyzing the reasons;3. offering the relative development countermeasures to make full use of FDI to promote foreign trade development mechanisim,industrial structure and foreign trade. This thesis analyzes FDI in Nantong, but the conclusion drawn also applies to other administrative regionalizations in the central section of Jiangsu province.As to information and materials , this thesis obtains statistical data mainly from the Statistical Yearbook,Customs Statistics,Statistical Bulletin and other functional departments in Nantong. The writer tries to materialize the latest development of Nan tong's FDI and foreign trade, using the most up-to-date data in 2005.The conclusion of this thesis is : FDI clearly promote the foreign trade growth and optimization of foreign trade structure, but there are some problems to overcome in the process of promoting foreign trade with foreign investment. From now Nantong should use its own advantages,create conditions to attractive quality investment and complete the mechanism of FDI to foreign trade in order to realize the integrated development of export-oriented economy.
