A Research On The Influence Imposed On Technological Innovation Ability By Industry Cluster Environment In SMEs

In developed countries, SMEs are playing an important role in the development of economy. SMEs drive the development of economy and solving the problem of employment, which has attracted more and more attention. In our country, SMEs is one of the essential parts in our economic structure. They help to decrease economic risk, adjust economic fluctuation, and deepen the reform of economic system. However, due to the limitation of size, fund and so on, the boss of SMEs hope that they could get breakthrough in technology, which will drive the development of SMEs. At the same time, the researchers found that it is easier for SMEs in the environment of industry cluster to obtain capital, resource and human resource, when they did research on the industry cluster. So, is it true that the industry cluster environment could affect the technological innovation ability of SMEs positively? In order to know the relationship between industry cluster environment (ICE) and technological innovation ability (TIA) better, we do this study.Using the literature on industry cluster and technological innovation as theoretical framework, we put forward our basic hypothesis: ICE affects the TIA of SMEs positively. We regard ICE as a latent multidimensional construct composed by service environment, technology environment, human resource and culture environment and capital environment. Similarly, TIA is composed by input ability, R&D ability and management ability of TI. Based on scale description, we put forward our concrete hypotheses which are as follows and propose a theoretical model.1. Service environment influences the TIA of SMEs.2. Technology environment impacts the TIA of SMEs.3. Human resource and culture environment affect the TIA of SMEs.4. Capital environment has an effect on the TIA of SMEs.We collected data through questionnaires and using the experience of other researchers for reference, we design the scales of ICE and TIA. As for analytical approach, we apply correlation analysis and regression analysis.Using SPSS 10.0 data processing software to analyze data, according to the results of data analysis, four of our hypotheses are supported and four of them are not supported. Our findings are as follows:1. There are week correlation between service environment and management ability of TI, it means that to some extent, the service environment help to improve the management ability of TI. However, service environment could not advance the capability of R&D remarkably.2. Technology environment could improve the capability of R&D remarkably.3. Human resource and culture environment could help to advance the capability of R&D, while it doesn't work on input ability and management ability of TI.4. Capital environment could affect both of the capacity of R&D and input ability positively.
