Study On The Tourism Development Of Resources-based Cities

By literature consulting and on-the-spot investigation, this paper studies tourism development of resources-based cities at home and abroad based on the theories of Tourism, Urban Planning, and Regional Economics, etc.There are many definitions for the word Resources-based Cities. First of all, the paper correlates these definitions and describes the characteristics of resources-based cities. Then it introduces the developing conditions of resources-based cities in China, including their number, type, formation, present conditions and developing tendency. Followed is the SWOT (strengthens, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis on the tourism development of resources-based cities. Tourism development in these cities is concluded into three patterns and each is sub-divided into several types. The suitability and feasibility of each pattern is also discussed in this paper. On the basis, the principle for tourism development of resources-based cities in China is brought forward and the evaluation model is constructed. Finally, the author gives out some advice for different types of resources-based cities like coal and metallurgical cities, petroleum cities and forestry resources-based cities, and takes Puyang in Henan province as the case study.
