Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is known as a contact less automaticidentification technique. Featured with the unique contact less and simultaneousmulti-object identification, this technique has been widely used in purchasing anddistribution logistics, transportation and anti-counterfeiting areas.The first part of the thesis aims to introduce the development of the RFID technique.The definition of RFID, its classification, the function and mechanism of the RFIDsystem components, advantages and typical application are summarized.Then the storage management theory—its components and the importance of storagemanagement are introduced, some problems in Chinese companies' storage aresummarized.By analyzing the application of RFID at home and abroad especially in the field ofstorage management, some problems of RFID application in china are found.Based on the above knowledge, an optimized materials tracking system based on theRFID technique are developed and discussed. Also, the operational processes of thesystem are given. Through combining the RFID technique with the barcode andutilizing the Omni-directional monitoring and management of the warehouse, theRFID solution for storage management improved the precision of the storageinformation and realized the real time automatic storage management. This system isthe best solution for medium and small warehouse. At the same time, some usefuladvices of RFID application are given to Chinese company. In the last part of thethesis, by analyzing the case of the development of RFID warehouse managementsystem for a cold warehouse in Tianjin, the feasibility of RFID application in thisthesis is verified.
