Vegetable is the important source of nourishment, and is also the basal consumable of food. Vegetables have been taking more and more important place in the food structure, with the ending of the short supply of basic agricultural products and the improvement of the national economy and the public living standard in China. But the speeding up of the agricultural modernization, especially the great input of the fossil energy in agricultural production and the discharge of wastes to the environment, has made the quality of agricultural products including vegetables a public concern in the world.The vegetable industry has been a stanchion industry to enhance the income of peasantry in Jiangsu Province. At present, the urgent problem is to improve vegetable quality and safety . On the experience of vegetable quality and safety management practice in America,EU and Shandong,Beijing and Anhui, combining analyses of present management of vegetable quality and safety in Jiangsu Province, some conclusions and responding policies suggestion are given as follows:1.Emphasizes were place highly on vegetable quality and safety management in Jiangsu Province, such as establishment of vegetable management organization system, formulating and implement of policies and laws on vegetable quality and safety and related characteristic standards, construction of demonstrative park for vegetable standardization planting, practicing and perfecting regular monitoring of vegetable quality and safety and market access management.2.Some typical models formated in the practice of vegetable quality and safety management in Jiangsu Province, such as Haimen Model which is a typical county scale integrating vegetable quality and safety management model taking on-farm product monitoring and market access management as key controling point, Chaoyang Model which is a typical leading firm-cored management model intergrating of building planting bases, monitoring, logistic distribution and vegetable safety insurance and Nanjing Model characterised by IC card monitoring system.3.The experiences for America and EU success in vegetable quality and safety management are government playing an important role in vegetable quality management, developing a sound, well-targeted system of laws and regulations, sound quality and safety management and supervision of vegetables mechanism, classification,standardized,international vegstable grading standard. The experiences for Shouguang County of Shandong Province, Beijing City and He County of Anhui Province in vegetable quality and safety management are emphasizing on vegetable producing base construction, extension of vegetable production standardlization,building of quality and safety testing system, monitoring of pesticide markets ,development of credit system construction of vegetable quality and safety , responsibility definition and relative main body sanction.4. At present, there are some issueses in vegetable safety and quality mamgement in Jiangsu Provenice, Such as non-intensive vegetable quality and safety management system,,environment pollution and degradation in part vegetable producing area,improper planting behavior of some vegetable farmers, non-intensive and small-size in vegetable planting and disordered vegetable market.Based on the above analyses, some suggestions on improvement of vegetable quality and safety management in Jaingsu Province are put forward, such as well defining related management agrncies responsibility, emphasizing environment construction and protection for safety vegetable production, monitoring agriculture inputs and related construction at safety vegetable base, building safety vegetable planting technology extension system and integrating management of vegetable quality and safety from production to consumption, especially forcing to implement of on-farm product monitoring and market access management.
