Researches On Problems And Strategies Of Foreign Investment In Mianyang

For more than 20 years, China has achieved great success in attracting foreign investment since the reform and opening up to the outside world. In terms of the growing speed and the volume of investment, China's status as "the world's manufacturer "has been firmly established and is expected to last for at least 20 years. However, there exists a hidden trend behind such a rapid growth: foreign investors often concentrate on the developed coastal areas. This geographical concentration of foreign investment has increased the gap between these coastal areas and inland provinces in the fields of economic and social development.Mianyang, a medium-sized inland city, took the first step towards opening up to the outside world in the 1980s. From no development to existing ones and from small to large. Its openness has continuously expanded. Especially since the latter half of the 1990s when it strived to boost its development, its opening up to the outside world has accelerated reform in the economic system and the transformation from an extensive to an intensive economy. Advanced technologies, processing, equipment and products brought along by foreign investors, especially the high and new technological products brought to Mianyang using the joint venture concept, start to form a new point of economic growth. They also lead to the formation and growth of electronic information industry, the pillar industry of Mianyang. Consequently, key enterprises in various industries including electronic information, building materials, chemicals, metallurgy, mechanics, medicine, light industry, and energy have realized an upgrading of their technological equipment and product quality, speeded up industrial and product restructuring, as well as the industrialization of agriculture. Although the economy of Mianyang has been increased as a whole, the total sum of utilized foreign investment is small and has not had a remarkable promotion effect on the economy.A large amount of foreign investment needs to be introduced to fill the financing gap so as to realize the rapid growth of Mianyang's economy. Based on the four representative theories concerning foreign investment utilization and economic growth, this thesis attempts to provide guidance for the utilization of foreign investment in Mianyang. By expounding the four theories, major influential factors concerning foreign investment utilization size and level are introduced including efficiency of foreign investment utilization, the investment environment, foreign investment orientation, etc. to analyze causes of the backwardness of foreign investment utilization in Mianyang ,and to propose corresponding strategies of investment promotion on the basis of the analysis of the influence on economic growth of the utilization of foreign investment.
