The theme of twenty-first century is bout urbanization in the whole world. According to the forecast from U.N., there will be over 1/2 population living in cities and this phenomenon will be the first one in history. However, 90% of those adding people will come from developing countries. City is the outcome of the stage that the economic society develops, and usually the center of an area's economy,policy and culture and finally the city is the result of advancement in society. So, Accelerating urbanization of china has important functions and significances. Although there were some urban problems during urbanization process in our country, urbanization should not be obviated. Urbanization should be guided by sustainable theory to achieving city's sustainable development.This study amalgamated the sustainable theory and urbanization study. According to the theory of systems, one city's sustainable development is regarded as the development of the city's population,economy,society,resources and environment five subsystems which has relation and influence with each other. Analyzing on the current sustainable index system and judging method from domestic country and overseas, this paper established an index system and method for judging a city's sustainable development .Finally, this paper took Shijiazhuang city for example, using data during 1999 and 2005year, worked demonstration on Shi Jiazhuang city's sustainable development, made comparison of the extent of this city's harmony and sustainable development, and forecasted on the city's development. By bringing forward the important problems for Shi Jiazhuang city's sustainable development, this paper finally gave the suggestion for this city's sustainable development in the 21st century.
