As far as researches are concerned about the industry distribution, adjustment of industry structure, urban and rural areas'overall development together with urbanization, there has been much work done in the field of economics, especially those combining industry development and urban/ rural areas'integration. When it comes to that concerning the interactive and developmental relations, what is available is still in a small amount of number, still less on index system for industry development assessment.The integration of urban and rural areas, as a problem involving much theory and practice, is a rather classical issue in the field of economics, urban geology, management, social science, and also a research focus in the field of philosophy, planning, geology, and aesthetics. Up till now, there have been many researches concerning urban problems; however, most are focusing on the description of objective phenomenon and the foreign theories. Fewer have been done about the bidirectional or overall research about urban and rural areas, not to mention comprehensive and quantified analysis of urban and rural areas integration, which is almost in the initial stage.The current paper has set an index system for industry development in the process of integrating urban and rural areas from the perspectives of urban and rural areas'economic development index, urban and rural areas'social development index, urban and rural areas'culture development index, as well as the life development in urban and rural areas. The industry development problems involved in the process of Chengdu's urban and rural areas'integration are discussed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Meanwhile, the current situation of Chengdu's industry structure is introduced with great details together with a comparison with that in developed countries. And a model is set resultingly for a quantitative analysis of the industry development in the process of integrating the districts in Chengdu, other cities and counties, in the hope that some new ideas for solving regional economic and social problems. Additionally, it is hoped that some reference can be made for speeding up the integration of urban and rural areas as well as the optimization of industry.The present thesis is composed of six parts. In the first part, the theoretical background is set. In the second part, the interactions between urban and rural areas integration and the development of industry. Chapter three mainly states out the course as well as the current situation of urban and rural areas integration. Chapter four is about the general situation of industry structure in Chengdu, as well as the situation compared with that in developed countries. In chapter five, a model is set for quantified analysis of the industry development level while the integration of various areas, counties goes on. Finally, several conclusions have been drawn.1. For the time being, the realization of integrating urban and rural areas is in a relatively sound state.2. The industry development in Chengdu has a sound tendency. Judging from the overall industry structure and weighing order, it comes close to that in developed countries and regions, belonging to the 321 type.3. The optimizing adjustment of industry structure is an important way for the improvement of economic increase as well as an important part in regional economic development strategy. The change in industry structure has a decisive impact on economic growth.4. Therefore, to speed up the adjustment of Chengdu's industrial adjustment and optimization is an important means for not only the urban and rural areas integration but also the overall development of urban economy, improvement of comprehensive ability and competing capacity. The industry development and the integration of urban and rural areas are supplementary to each other.5. The integration of urban and rural areas and the constant adjustment of industry have an indispensable moving impact on the development of economic development in Chengdu as well as the construction of social new rural areas. The process of integrating urban and rural areas is as a matter of fact a process of industry evolution as well, in that the city, without industry support, can not become the centre with ever increasing gathering and radiating capacity...
