In market economy, consumption demand is the condition of admitting the value produced by economic activities and will affect the supply quantity and quality significantly. Therefore, as the ultimate demand, the structure of consumption demand is the most important factor in industrial structure, so the former will affect the later. Since Beijing is currently in the crucial period of industrial structure adjusting, it requires that the industrial structure should be adjusted based in consumption law in order to maintain the economic growth. This article finds the correlation of the consumption change and economic structure adjustment, and uses the data of consumption structure changes in Beijing from 1970s to analyze the effect of consumption changes for industry comparatively and econometrically. Furthermore, it tries to provide some suggestions which could help the policy makers correlate the consumption structure and industrial structure to ensure the healthy economy development. In the conclusion, the article gives some aims and policies of promoting the industrial adjustment through updating consumption structure. Nowadays, the categories of consumption demand which are increasing are communication, health care, education, entertainment and housing, so there become some new consumption areas in economy, such as cars, housing, information, culture and tourism etc. Consequently, it asks the clear policy to promote industrial structure and develop the principal industries such as estate, motor and high technology. It also requires the adjustment of agricultural structure, development of consumable producing and tertiary industry, promotion of inter-structure of heavy industry and improvement of consuming environment.
