Guizhou's tourism started in the early 1980s. Guizhou province is one of the last regions to open to the outside world. It also belongs to a province developing its tourism late. Over the past two decades, Guizhou's tourism has developed rapidly. It has become one of the industries with small investment, rapid development, better benefits and more vigor in provincial economy. Tourism has played a positive role in promoting the development of provincial economy and casting off poverty in poverty stricken areas. At the same time, Guizhou's tourism also set higher requirements for tourism higher education in Guizhou—providing a large quantity of high-quality talents.At the present time, Guizhou Normal University, Guizhou University, Guizhou University for Nationalities, and other colleges and universities have opened some majors of the college's and the undergraduate's, such as: a tourism management, hotel management, tourism guides, and so on. Some schools have already built a master degree in tourism, and the recruitment scale of tourism professional students is expanding gradually. Despite the rapid development of tourism higher education in Guizhou, but the quality of education, the level of education, and other aspects are still lagging behind in the national rank. Obviously, there is a realistic gap between weak tourism education and the strategic target demanding for building advanced tourism province. Guizhou's tourism higher education system is still in the process of construction and perfection. Most tourism colleges follow the model"feeling the stone with the development process to cross river"in the formation and growth process. In the initial period, Guizhou's tourism colleges copied other provinces'traditional school pattern, curriculum set-up, teaching method and so on. After a period of development, many schools discovered plenty of big problems in this education system which did not unify practical factors of Guizhou, students'characteristics, and the market demands. Students nurtured from this education system commonly have the defects such as: vague professional features, weak adaptability, unsatisfactory integrated quality, insufficient growth potential and so on. Each tourism colleges and tourism educators should take those problems seriously. Therefore, all schools (colleges) in Guizhou tourism higher education concern two questions. First, how do they mine tourism major's characteristics of college itself? Second, how they can be admired by the professional industry? The study of this topic provides a kind of references to tourism higher education reform in Guizhou without doubt. Thus the research of this topic analyzes the present situation and the existing problem of Guizhou's tourism higher education on the basis of objective investigation. It focuses on constructing a strong support system of Guizhou's tourism higher education, implements the reform and innovation of tourism educational comprehensively and establishes new personnel training objectives of tourism higher education in Guizhou. The study deepens the reform of tourism higher education from five levels. Namely: the development path pattern, the personnel training pattern, the teaching contents and the method pattern, the school characteristic pattern and the teaching media pattern. It explores the sustainable developing road of tourism higher education in Guizhou.
