The Intra-Industry Trade Of Wood-Forest Products In China

During this decade, the trade amount of Wood-Forest Product (WFP) in China has been growing rapidly and had great influence on the forest industry. Meanwhile, the intra-industry trade (IIT) had become more and more obvious.The paper has seven chapters, including four main blocks.First, this paper defined the statistical range of WFP and selected 10 sorts which have representative characteristics. Using the statistical data this paper analyzed the trade amount, product structure and the market distributing of WFP in China. The export and import of WFP increased fast at the same time, and the main trade partner was Indonesia, United States, Russia and Germany. Among the trade of overall WFP and each sorts of WFP, there was obvious IIT phenomenon.Second, using the GL index, this paper measured the level of IIT of WFP in China. From 1992 to 2005, the GL index of overall WFP improved from 0.39 to 0.81. The level of IIT of WFP kept increasing, and the main trade form gradually changed from inter-industry trade to IIT.Third, vertical and horizontal were two pattern of IIT. Knowing the pattern of IIT was one of the emphases of IIT study. Using the GHM method, this paper calculated the ratio of unit value of export and import of each product group, and distinguished the character of the product differences between export and import. Then the level of low quality vertical IIT, high quality vertical IIT and the horizontal IIT was measured. The results showed that 80% WFP's product quality of export was higher than that of import, and the character of product differences between export and import was high quality vertical pattern.The fourth, this paper compared the level and pattern of IIT of WFP in China and Russia. The pattern of IIT was low quality vertical in both China and Russia. However, the level of IIT of China's WFP had been always greater than Russia. The export products between the two countries are strongly complementary to each other, showing trade cooperation relationship.A result can be concluded on the basis of whole paper, there were obvious IIT phenomenon in the trade of WFP in China, which its trade pattern was low quality vertical IIT. The level of whole IIT was relative low. The most important was that fully using advantage products to increase the IIT level and promote it's competitiveness on the basis of expanding scale.
