Probe Into China's Ancient Underwear Culture

In the beginning of the 20th century, China's underwear system blended into the western dress system gradually with the extinction of the traditional dress, it has simply imitated the west on the technology and design and lost its own national characteristics. This is disadvantages for the long-term development of China's underwear industry. In view of this, it's necessary and important to excavate Chinese traditional underwear culture.Beginning with the appellation of China's ancient typical underwear and the distinguish external characteristics in each historical periods, this paper emphasizes on the shape of the ancient underwear in different period, the color and pattern, the material and skill, analyzes the Chinese ancient underwear shape characteristics, wearing ideas, line decoration and color meaning as well as its folk custom and pluralism, and proves the China's ancient ideology, culture value and creation idea reflected by Chinese ancient underwear. By explaining the deep cultural intension contained by the underwear, it explores how the artistic essence can be used into the modern underwear design.The purpose of inheriting the tradition is for development and innovation. The goal of this paper is to develop the traditional underwear, discuss the innovative traditional dress design which is up to the modern fashion idea, to carry out the outstanding traditional art and human spirit in modern dress. This paper mainly analyzes and researches the upper wear system of China's ancient underwear.
