The study of Land Use/Cover Change (LUCC) has been a hot issue of Geography and related research. As the processes of both industrialization and urbanization accelerated in China, the expansion of urban and rural built-land use has played an important place in the regional land use/cover change increasingly, so the study concerning the expansion of built-land provides us a more good starting point for research. Thirty years of reformation and opening policy has execused successfully, urban and rural land use change, driven by rural industrialization of southeastern coastal developed areas in China, have been rapid and complex, showing a unique form of landscape space as "village level equals to cities and towns, city and town level equals to villages". However, the existing research related to the expansion of built-land use put great emphasis on urban areas, rarely on the urban and rural integration, to study the region land use changes in the the view of overall built-land use, which resulted that the research on regional expansion of built-land use have not been perfect. In this paper, choosing Jinjiang City of Fujian Province as an case study, using RS and GIS technology with multi-period and multi-source spatial data, first of all, to analysis the temporal-spatial characteristics and driving forces of the expansion of built-land use from the view of urban and rural residential area in details; Secondly, Fitting regression model has been used to predict the scale of urban and rural built-land in the year of 2010 and 2020; at the end, optimization model and countermeasures have been proposed from the current characteristics of the urban and rural built-land in Jinjiang city. Concluded that: (1) from 1985 to 2005, the expansion of built-land in Jinjiang City shows large-scale and marked staging; (2) Due to the impact of rural industrialization, the changing space of urban and rural built-land space becames complex increasingly; (3)The incremental expansion of urban and rural built-land mainly come from farmland, followed by the unused land, garden, woodland and water; (4) the expansion of built-land use in Jinjiang City has combining reasons, such as natural factors, economic factors, population and cultural factors, national policies and systems.
