Coastal tourism is a global forefront of the development of the tourism industry. The world's coastal tourism centre is gradually moving to the Asia-Pacific region. The regional traffic conditions, the tourism resources and the regional economy in the coastal regions in China are better than other regions. The level and scale of the tourism development in the coastal regions in China are already and will be in a dominant position in our country's toruism system. Although cross-regional tourism cooperations in different coastal areas have already begun, yet due to the lackness of the coordinated development of tourism, the low-level redundant constructions and other issues are quite serious,so China's overall efficiency and the international competitiveness of the coastal tourism development are weakened.Owning to these, with a view to contribute to the development of China's coastal tourism efficiency, and enhancing the international competitiveness of our country's coastal tourism, this paper firstly analyzes the spatial structure of the coastal tourism, and then optimizes the spatial structure of the coastal tourism. The research objects of this thesis are China's 14 key coastal tourism cities.Based on the detailed analysis on the tourism resources, domestic and foreign tourist flows and the current status of the tourism development in the various cities, using the theories on regional development, the thesis puts forward the measures to optimize the spatial structure of China's coastal tourism development. The main results and conclusions are as follows:(1)This thesis makes a qualitative evaluation on the regional traffic conditions and positions, regional economic and tourism resources of our country's key coastal tourism cities. Then the thesis concludes that China's coastal tourism traffic conditions are advantageous, regional economic development is developed and the northern and southern natural and cultural tourism resources are rich and complementary.Furthermore, this thesis makes a quantitative evaluation on the quantity and quality of the tourism resources in China's key tourism cities, and concludes that the coastal tourism resources are rich, but are not geographically balanced. And the total scores which stand for the overall scale of the tourism resources and the average scores which stand for the quality of the tourism resources show differentiation characteristics from city to city.(2)This thesis quantitatively analyses inbound tourist flows of the key coastal tourism cities, and concludes that the total inbound tourist flows fluctuate in growth, and the geographical differences show a trend that the absolute differences are continuously growing, but the relative differences are gradually narrowing. The inbound tourist flows of the 14 key coastal tourism cities are in the absolute superiority among the 53 coastal cities in China, but the proportion is less and less year by year. And the ratios between inbound and domestic tourist flows in the 14 cities are lower than the national average level. As far as the flow sources are concerned, the largest inbound market turned into the foreign countries from Hong Kong in 2003.Then the thesis analyses the shared proportion of the four segments of Hong Kong,Macao,Taiwan and the foreign countries in each city.Because of the foreign market being the largest tourism market, the thesis makes a further in-depth analysis on it.The domestic tourist flows analysis is based on the sample survey of domestic tourists. The thesis shows the characteristics of the spending and the travel behaviors of the domestic tourists.Thirdly, based on the data of inbound tourists and domestic tourists statistics, the thesis forecasts the total number of inbound tourists and domestic tourists in the future of the 14 cities.(3)The thesis establishes an evaluation index system of the tourism development in the 14 cities. And using the principal component analysis method, the thesis quantitatively evaluates the status quo of the tourism development in the 14 cities. On this basis,a cluster analysis concludes that the 14 cities can be divided into 5 types, and then further calculations about the tourism economic ties intensity among the cities are made.(4)On the basis of the analysis above, with the regional development-related theories, the thesis integrates the tourism development strategies and concepts of the 14 cities, and brings forward the "one core three regions and one belt" spatial structure as the spatial optimization pattern of China's coastal tourism development.
