With the economic globalization and development of modern science and technology, increasing corporations become to realize that it is hardly possible to survive the more intensive marketing competition alone. Ever since 1980's,under the circumstance of the severe marketing competition , western corporations especially multinational corporations(MNC) start to strategically adjust the competitive relationships between corporations and replace opposite competition with cooperative competition in global market. As an innovation of organizational relationship,strategic alliance has been playing vital role in modern corporations to strengthen competitive advantages. Strategic alliance is regarded as"the foremost organization innovation since 1920's".Given the fact that our nation has entered into WTO, our national economy has absolutely melt into the world economy and the open of our country has came into a new age, the party center put forward the open strategy in new situation in order to enlarge the open. Hence,the nation will nurture and develop a lot of big transnational corporations with strong competitiveness. Referring to iron & steel industry, our country has been the No.1 country in Iron & steel production and consumption for 11 years on end. However, china is not a strong competitive country on Iron & steel. The gap on corporation scope, innovation skills, production structure and price-controlling skills between china's Iron & steel industry and other countries'becomes obstacles of further development of international operation for china's Iron & steel enterprises. With the trend of merge & acquisition and strategic alliances for global Iron & steel industry to strengthen competitive advantages, china's Iron & steel enterprises must sieve the opportunity to improve international competitiveness in the long run.The paper is devoted to provide theory, ways and advice for our national Iron & steel enterprises building up transnational strategic alliance, and constructive suggestions for the establishment of competitive strategy for Iron & steel enterprises to enhance international competitiveness. Combining theory with practice study, the paper deeply analyses transnational strategic alliance for our national Iron & steel enterprises in terms of the rapid development of transnational strategic alliance and the emergency of our national Iron & steel enterprises improving international competitiveness.This paper starts from the conception, and types of strategic alliances, analyzes internal and external drivers and economic effects of strategic alliances. After that, the paper analyzes the theoretical foundation of transnational strategic alliances improving competitiveness, in terms of the theories of O.I.L. advantages, the theories of value chain, the theories of resources capabilities. Combined with the general theory of transnational strategic alliance and relevant principles of economics and management, this thesis mainly analysis the reason for China's Iron & Steel industry carrying out transnational strategic alliance to improve international competitiveness. Such an analysis is carried out from the necessity and availability of organizing transnational strategic alliances. The necessity of establishing transnational strategic alliances is based on internal factors of the conditions of international competitiveness for China's Iron & Steel industry, external factors of the trends of strategic integration for global Iron & Steel industry, and realistic factors of the profit of transnational strategic alliances for our national Iron & Steel enterprises. The availability is based on strength of our national Iron & Steel enterprises, resource advantages, governmental policy and information network technology. In accordance with the situations of transnational strategic alliances for our national Iron & Steel enterprises, the paper explores the potential conflict and venture, and also puts forward specific solutions from the angle of microeconomics and macroeconomics aimed at helping china's Iron & Steel enterprises to achieve successful execution of transnational strategic alliances, which also give the solutions for the key question on how to do that.The chapter also deals with the effects of transnational strategic alliances and analyzes the theoretical foundation of transnational strategic alliances improving competitiveness, in terms of O.I.L. advantages theory, value chain theory and enterprises capabilities theory. Combined with the general theory of transnational strategic alliance and relevant principles of economics and management, this thesis mainly analysis the reason for China's Iron & steel industry carrying out transnational strategic alliance to improve international competitiveness. Such an analysis is carried out from the necessity and availability of organizing transnational strategic alliances.
