The textiles industry is one of the pillar industries in Chinese economy. After joining the World Trade Organization, China has become the biggest textiles producing and export country in the world. The export of Chinese textiles to United States has occupying an important position in Chinese textiles trade. At present, United States is one of most important country of our textiles in three big export markets, and in 2006 the export of China textiles to United States occupied 18.78% in total export amount of Chinese textiles. However, with the cancellation of quota, the export market in United States between various countries becomes more competitive, especially some new textiles exporters like India and Vietnam are getting stronger, which makes Chinese textiles industries face much more challenges and threats. Therefore, how to increase the export competitiveness of Chinese textiles in United States under the new situation is important to our country, especially in developing the Chinese textiles industry and consolidating important status of Chinese textiles to United States.This thesis takes the export competitiveness of China textiles to United States as the study object. First, writer summarizes the original theory of international competitiveness, and discriminates the difference between international competitiveness and export competitiveness. Second, we describes present producing and exporting situation of Chinese textiles through the related material and data, as well as the textiles trade between United States and China. Then uses the export and import data to calculate the six indexes of the main export countries in United States from 1997 to 2006, and utilizes the factor analysis method to compare the synthesis export competitiveness of the countries above. In order to study the export competitiveness of some product, writer analyzes the export competitiveness with shift share analytic method, which is from three angles: structure effect, competition and interaction effects. After the quantitative analysis, this paper studies the export competitiveness with qualitative analysis method, which is based on the Michael Bolt's diamond theory. Then writer analyzes the influencing factors from production element, related industrial support, marketing environment, enterprise development and summarizes some problems in Chinese textiles industries, such as unoptimizing structure of export production, unstable price and production of raw material, the weakness of new product developing and brand designed ability and the developing of potential competitors like India and Vietnam. Finally, according to the summarizing problems, this thesis gives some suggestions to improve the export competitiveness of Chinese textiles to United States from macroscopic and the microscopic, which including increases the upscale apparels in export proportion, turns to the OEM into establishing self-brand, and enhances the production technology of yarn and so on..
