Comparative Study On The Competitiveness Of China And Vietnam Textiles Export

From the 16th position in 2006,Vietnam climbed up to 5th position by 2015 in Global Textile and Garment Exports.Vietnam's textile and garment industry has developed rapidly with advantages in many aspects.However,in the international market,its competitiveness remains weak and not very clear..Meanwhile,China,its neighbor,has been always the largest textile and garment exporter in the world.It raises a question on how Vietnam could learn from China's development experiences to enhance textile and garment's competitive capacity.In addition,the exports of textile and garment of China and Vietnam have not only competitive relations,but also a supportive one.Especially in recent years,this support has increased.China has strong advantages regarding to raw materials and technology,while Vietnam has clear competitive advantage in labor costs and policy.In the global market,the two countries can base on their the advantages and disadvantages in production and trade to support each other and get mutual benefits.The research object of this thesis is the export competitiveness of China and Vietnam's textile and garment industries.On the basis theoretical framework,this thesis analyzes the present situation and existing problems of China and Vietnam's textile and garment exports and then figures out the most influential factors in textile and garment export competitiveness of both countries.After that,the four competitiveness indices from different angles are used to compare their textile and garment export competitiveness.The research reveals that:1.The competitiveness of China and Vietnam's textile exports has been significantly improved,they both have better competitive capacity in finished goods than semi finished goods.2.Aggregate competitiveness of China's textile and garment exports is bigger than Vietnam's,the gap between two countries in terms of finished goods is smaller than semi finished goods.3.With regard to textile and garment exports,at the present,Vietnam has a bigger comparative advantage than China,China is losing its comparative.However,China's textile industry has been being supported by advantages from raw materials,therefore,remains its strong competitiveness.Finally,from the development experiences of China,the thesis gives some recommendation to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnam's textile and garment exports.
