Textile and garment industry is an important economic pillar industry in China and also an industry with international competitiveness in China.Similarly,Indian textile and garment industry is also in the world's leading position.China and India have been expanding the United States and other textile and gaement countries' market share with cost advantages over other countries. In recent years,as the total amount of textile and garment from China and India to the United States increased, the competition between China and India is increasingly fierce. Therefore, this paper attempts to compare the competitiveness of textile and garment in the US market between China and India and analyze the factors that affect export growth to provide recommendations for improving the international competitiveness of Chinese textile and garment industry. The paper uses qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis to comprehensively evaluate the international competitiveness of the textile and garment industry in the United States market between China and India and draws a conclusion. In the qualitative analysis, this paper mainly summarizes the status quo of the production and trade of the textile and garment industry in China and India.First of all, based on Michael Porter's diamond model theory,we obtained a comparison between the textile and garment industry status with production factor endowments(textile raw materials and labor resources),related and supporting industries(textile machinery)and government policies. The result shows that China and India have their respective comparative advantages in the textile and garment industry.Secondly, through analysis and comparison of the status quo of exports of Chinese and Indian textile and garment products in the world market,it has been found that China and India have fierce competition in the United States market. Finally, through the comparison of the export scale and export commodity structure of the Chinese and Indian textiles and garment in the United States market,it was found that China's export scale in the U.S.market was stronger than India, and Indian development capability was stronger than that of China. The competition between the two countries mainly focuses on the exporting of garment, chemical fiber, carpets and cotton.Based on the above qualitative analysis, this paper mainly uses evaluation method based on export data and the constant market share model(CMS model)to do quantitative analysis on the competitiveness of textile and garment products in the US market between China and India. In the index evaluation method based on export data,we mainly through the two perspectives of export competitive advantage and export structure, the five indexes of export similarity index, export penetration index and trade competitiveness index, revealed comparative advantage index and product added value index to comprehensively evaluate and compare the competitiveness of Chinese and Indian textile and garment products in the United States market. The constant market share model(CMS model)analyzed the factors affecting export growth in textile and garment and changes in the competitiveness of the main competitive textile and garment products in the United States market.Based on the above qualitative and quantitative analysis, the following conclusions are drawn: Chinese textile and garment industry has a competitive advantage over India in the U.S.market,the Indian textile and garment's exporting structure is better than China;Among the major textile and garment products exported to the United States by the two countries,China's garments and chemical fiber are more competitive than India,Indian cotton and carpets are more competitive than Chinese. In recent years, the competitiveness of Chinese textile and garment industry has risen higher than that of Indian. The competitiveness of chemical fiber and garments in the US market is on the rising. The competitiveness of carpets is declining. The competitiveness of Chinese cotton is increasing, while the competitiveness of Indian cotton is declining. The growth of Chinese and Indian textile and garment exports to the United States is mainly due to American market demand and rationality of its exporting structure.
