Research On Assessment Index System And Assessment Methods Of Urban Competitiveness

At present, there are two inundant trends emerged in economy development: knowledge based economy sprung up and economy globalization emerged, which promote global society, economy, policy, culture changing tremendously. International competition between countries and enterprises increasingly intensify. As an important part of country competition, as a carrier of enterprises competition and a main concourse for people's lives, competition between cities also intensify. How to upgrade urban competition has turned into hotspot problem for each city to solve. Upgrading urban competition is pressing demand for economy globalization, especially after joining WTO, It is inevitable choice to participate in international cooperation and competition in economy and technology from more extensive scope, much higher level and wider field. It is also inhenrent request to realize modernization based on constructing affluence society generally.This thesis illuminates the concept, connotation and characters of urban competition by reviewing the history of city development and analyzing its evolution trends. With combining the knowledge of geography economics, city economics as well as other related fields of subject, Firstly, compare relative theories and models about urban competitiveness between national and international countries, summarize its traits, bring forward the basic frame of urban competitiveness and illuminate the connotation and characters of urban competitiveness; Secondly, constitute practible evaluation index system of urban competitiveness by scientific quantitative and qualitative methods. Then analyze urban competitiveness of Wuhan, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Kunming by exerting new evaluation index system; at last, introduce the position of Wuhan urban competitiveness in China and advantages and weakness of influencing its urban competition. The intension of this thesis is to find the difference between Wuhan and other cities from each index comparison, all of these can help promote corresponding countermeasures to upgrade Wuhan urban competitiveness.But by far, researches on urban competition do not form intact and authoritative theory, which is also in exploring and practicing phase. Researches on urban competitiveness in national and international countries are just underway, it does not form perfect evaluation system. So this thesis puts up some profitable discussion on the evaluation of urban competitiveness.
