A Case Research On Character And Operation Mechanism Of Manufacturing Process Innovation

Manufacturing is the base of national economy. Developed manufacturing and extensive application of advanced technology is an important label of economic competitive power of a country. The role of technology in manufacturing is much more important than before. Thus studying and mastering the rules of process innovation is significant for increasing our own ability of innovation.This paper chose dieless hydro-forming sphere technology which invented by Prof. Wang Zhongren in Harbin Institute of Technology as a representative case. Through understanding and analysing of the exploitation course of this technology, influence factors during process innovation were abstracted. It was summarized that the innovation model is an alternation model of process innovation and product innovation, which based on process innovation. And the tree modal relation between process innovation and product innovation in manufacturing industry was presented. This paper discusses the diffusion of process innovation as well as the use and integration of knowledge in process innovation. Through the research of this case, it can be concluded that the diffusion of process innovation has two forms including internal and external diffusion. The former is that the product served as medium, and one innovation can arose a series of innovation. The latter is that a successful innovation may result in a series of new products. Compared with product innovation, the diffusion of process innovation has its own particularity. It is influenced by national system, the extent of accepting new technics of people, the business mechanism of manufacturing and the protection of knowledge property right etc. In the course of process innovation, lots of knowledge integration will be carried on. Innovation of manufacturing require nonlogical thinking, such as intuition, inspiration and so on. So in this course, integration of tacit knowledge is important. This research can provide reference and enlightenment for enterprise and research department to carry out process innovation, and this research can also provide gist for enriching the theory of process innovation.
