With the development of the economic globalization and trade liberalization, trade plays a more and more important role in the development of economy Many a country stresses the importance of international trade. During those years, the volume of international trade keeps growing. However, some problems hidden in the world trade emerge gradually. Many a country on one hand takes measures to boost its foreign trade, on the other hand, block the import of goods to its country in various ways. Form the end of the Second World War to the end of the 1970s, such restrictions were mainly high tariff barriers. Form the middle of the twentieth century, after the harsh negotiation, the average level of world tariffs were lowered tremendously, the protection functions of tariffs was strictly limited .On this background, the trade protective measures for developed countries have shifted from tariffs to traditional NTB, import-export quota system, permit administration, voluntary restriction of export, foreign exchange control, and so on, were widely used. From the end of the 1990's, depending on the advantages of the advanced technology, some new NTBs, such as, technical barriers, green trade barriers have come into being one after another. Scholars have done much research on those subjects, and many achievements have come up on and then, I don't want to say here more than is necessary. This thesis tends to study on trade barriers in a new vantage, after a brief review on the status quo, a new concept is put up,i.e social barriers on trade. It is quite different from the traditional social barriers, which concentrated mainly on the trade protection based on the excuses of the workers'working environment, working conditions and their rights to live and so on. From this point of view, the traditional social barrier only refers to Social Accountability 8000 (SA8000 for short) and its related regulations. In this thesis, however, I defined the social barriers on trade as a set of regulations concerning politics, history, culture, ethnic emotions, and so on. Those trade barriers consist of animal welfare barriers, ethnic misunderstandings, and the trade barriers originated from political factors, and so on. This definition enlarges the expansion of the social barrier, which makes for a systemic study on this subject. After a new definition was set, the thesis analysis the mainly forms of social barriers, then analysis its impacts on our foreign trade in dynamic and static ways. It shows that no matter in the short or long term, the social barriers have influenced our international trade negatively, but respecting labors'rights and culture is an irreversible trend, we must follow this trend to boost our trade. According to problems concerning social barriers, some countermeasures were put up in three layers, i.e. government position, business union position and enterprise position. At last, this thesis also mentions some problems the regions inhabited by ethnic groups should pay attention to.
