The Research On The International Trade Competitiveness Of Guangdong Province

Since the 90's, the high technology of which the center is the information technology revolution has been developing rapidly. It not only has broken through the national boundary, but also reduced the regional distances between countries , causing the world economics to get closer .The economic globalization has already been one of important characters and tendency in the world now. It is a handle of double-edged sword of opportunity and challenge to each country and region. Especially to developing countries of the weak economy, the challenge will be fiercer when they face the global competition.China joined into the World Trade Organization in 2001 and it is facing the more and more complex and intense international competition. Foreign trade competitiveness as an ability that the products, industries which can be traded as well as the trade enterprises can open, take up the foreign markets and get the profit from them is the direct performance of the counties or regions in the international competition. The foreign trade competitiveness is playing an important role for changing the challenge to the opportunity in the international competition.Guangdong Province has been developing the market economy for the spirit of the "to be the first" and has established the seeker status and the export-oriented developmental strategy. Guangdong Province's economic growth way is to make full use of the relative advantage of the factors of the labor force and other economic resources to get the trade competiveness. The cost of labor is getting higher with the lapse of time and the relative advantage is losing gradually but the new foreign trade competitiveness has not been formed.How to develop the trade competiveness and to change the low-cost strategy to the technology strategy has been an urgent problem for Guangdong when facing the intensive international competiveness and the shortage of the development of the trade. So it is necessary for us to do a research on the international trade competiveness of Guangdong.Shanghai,Zhejiang,Jiangsu and Shandong provinces (cities) as the super international trade regions in China can basically represent the entire China's foreign trade competitiveness level. We can obtain the overall level and the position of Guangdong in China's as well as the superiority and the inferiority by doing the overall appraisal and the analysis with these four provinces in order to face international competition. This article will do a whole appraisal to the foreign trade competitiveness of the 18 provinces (cities) in 2006 through the establishment of the synthetic evaluation indicator system. It will use the single indicator to appraise the Guangdong foreign trade competitiveness from the three levels of the trade product, the type of trade, the main bodies of trade and to analyze the Guangdong foreign trade competition superiority and the inferiority systematically, then will propose the policy that how Guangdong Province can change from the relative advantage to the competitive advantage.
