In recent years, China's retail formats has been developing rapidly, from visible shop sales to invisible electronic network sales, from a purely department stores to supermarkets , conviences, shopping centers, and other co-exist format. Only in a few years, various formats of retail enterprises have mushroomed out. However, with retail markets saturated, the same targetting enterprises are commonly found. Most stores have the same outlook. A lot of businesses are lack of operating characteristics in merchandises, types of goods, shop's layout, functions thus resulting in vicious competition in the same region of the same targeting market. Because of this, many of the retail businesses are in difficulties, the importance of retail formats becomes increasingly prominent. The author chooses commercial retailing as a study object, one purpose: on one hand, to explore actively the retail formats which is suitable for China's national conditions in practice. Through research makes this exploration gradually form a standardized model for China's large retail enterprises, especially to be a guide in the regional or county-level retail market development. On the other hand, through exploration and research of retail enterprises composite form in practice, the author hopes that scholars, entrepreneurs can concern on the development of retail formats in China and promote a rapid and healthy development of China's retail industry.Based on the previous theoretical research and author's many years of retail practice, the author analyses the development and current status of retail industry through the application of theoretical analysis, cases, literature, the qualitatative and quantitatite analysis methods and contrast. The Author analyzes the motives for retail industry development and factors which influce the retail trends, especially focus on exploring the proposed composite model of retail formats. Main conclusions include: First, more and more retail enterprises emphasis on Retailing-model. Second, China's Retail formats is in a prosperous period and many kinds of retail formats are existing and it tends to be developing into segmentations. Third, suburban regional market and the county-level market provides a basis for the composite model. Last but not least, composite model is suitable for some of the consumer market, but needed further exploration, so as to establish a scientific data model.
