With the sustained and stable development of our national economy, the cars got into Chinese families on a large scale and became popular in the country's big cities gradually. Experts predicted that the high-speed development of China's family cars will be 2010 to 2015.The rapid development of the family cars was like a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it had the undoubted effect in expanding domestic demands, promoting economic development, improving of the urban spatial structure the living standards of residents; on the other hand, the rapid development of family cars had also brought city traffic jams, energy shortages, environmental pollution and other negative issues. In order to guarantee the sustainable development of urban transport, we needed to analyze their causes and effects systematically and comprehensively. We also needed to propose reasonable measures to guide the development of family cars.Firstly, the paper introduced in detail the successful experience of the development of family cars in developed cities ,and has provided valuable experience for development of family cars in China; Secondly, it deepen the understanding of family cars through the relevant analysis of the family cars, for research the causes and impact of rapid development of family cars; Thirdly, it analyzed the reasons why family cars developed so rapidly in our big cities in terms of such factors as national policies, the national economy, the automobile industry and urban layout. Fourthly, combined the status of China's land and oil resources and environment, it elaborated many effects on urban transportation and community caused by the rapid development of family cars. Fifthly, based on the study above,and the idea of a harmonious society and sustainable development, it produced that the "development-oriented" model is suitable model for development of family cars in China's, and several effective measures had been proposed to guide the rational development of family cars in big cities of China under this guidance . Finally, the further researches of the family cars were raised.
