Consumer Society And All-round Development Of Human Beings

Consumer society is a phenomenon which appears in the vicissitude of western countries during the 20^th century, and it has become a hot spot recently. However, as to all-round development of human beings, the coming of consumer society is a double-edged sword. On one hand, from the view of technology and productivity development, with the substantial and cultural consumption improved tremendously, consumer society has elevated the comprehensive quality of social members, and it prompts all-round development of human beings; on the other, from the view of living and mental status of humans, with symbol system occupied the whole society, even the people's lives being symbolized continuously, the body and soul of humans are separated evidently day after day, which makes the humans slump into the Consumption Prison and restricts all-round development of human beings. Therefore, it is imperative for us to study how to resist the consumption life style of western countries and to develop a reasonable consumer society which is benefit for all-round development of human beings.In this paper, with the relation between consumer society and all-round development of human beings studied, the essential connotation of all-round development of human beings and the effect of consumer society on all-round development of human beings are opened out, and it is discussed that how to build a reasonable consumer society in order to promote all-round development of human beings. The whole paper can be divided into five parts. Firstly, the significance and background of this paper are introduced. Secondly, the theoretical source and characteristics of consumer society is collected and the transition from producer society to consumer society is expatiated briefly. Thirdly, based on the theory of Marxism, all-round development of human beings is systematically dissertated, and the approach to realize all-round development of human beings is explained. Fourthly, the effect of consumer society on all-round development of human beings is discussed pro and con. For one thing, based on theory of Marxism, the positive effect of consumer society is expatiate from the view of highly developed productivity; for another, the crisis caused by consumption society is analyzed. Lastly, the objectives and means of building a reasonable consumer mode are proposed in order to promote all-round development of human beings.
