As along with the changes of loads' characteristics in power system now the difference between load peaks and valleys becomes larger and larger, and pumped-storage plants as energy storage devices play a more and more important role in power system. But in power market pumped-storage plants will decide the electricity price to maximize their profits, so how to chose a proper bidding algorithm and operation mode to make sure both the power plant and electric network's benefit is worth to do some research.In this paper, electricity market algorithm considering pumped-storage plant based on block bidding model is presented, in this algorithm block bidding is use to achieve the goal of same price in the same quality, that is the low electricity price in basic load blocks but the high price in peak load blocks. So pumped-storage plants can get its benefit by the difference between sale incomes at peak blocks and purchase costs at valley time blocks. As a result of that, pumped-storage plants yield well economic returns itself, also peak-to-valley differences in electric systems, loads' characteristics in power systems and operating conditions of large-scale thermal units are all effectively improved.First the theoretical background about block bidding power market and pumped-storage plants is analyzed. Subsequently, this algorithm is presented according to the generalization of two theories. This algorithm decides the daily operation mode of pumped-storage plants in advantage under the units' constraints, then, arranges thermal units bid for the new load in their bids order. At last, the test examples suggest that this algorithm could assure cheaper prices of electric power, and could show the rationality of the proposed method.
