Index System And Compositive Appraising Study Of Establishing Harmonious Society In Guangdong

Building a harmonious society in Guangdong is an important and indispensable social condition that is continue maintaining steady economic growth and achieving early realization of a comprehensive well-off society. A socialist harmonious society should be equipped with democratic rule of law, equity and justice, sincerity and amity, vitality, stability and order, harmony between man and nature. Based on these six areas, this paper contains 18 appraising indices of a harmonious society of Guangdong by using Principal Component Analysis to determine and the weighted arithemetic mean method to synthesize the weight of indices, then, calculate and analyze the Guangdong Harmony Index from 1999 to 2006 with the Guangdong actual data. The results demonstrate that in recent years, the Guangdong harmonious society composite index is showing a gradual upward trend indicating increment in harmony. Specifically in the areas of sincerity and amity index, vitality index, stability and order index, harmony between man and nature index confirm a upward trend. On the contrary, in the areas of democratic rule of law index, equity and justice index show a downward trend. The existing problems in building a harmonious society of Guangdong are mainly stated as follow: the need to improve law-and-order situation, the need to narrow income gap between residents, the need to improve employment situation and the need to improve environmental protection, all of which are affecting Guangdong social harmony. Therefore, we should pay attention to these aspects of the work.
