Integrity Test Of Personnel Recruitment And Selection

Research in western countries indicated that integrity test has acceptable reliability and validity and is a mature tool for personnel recruitment and selection. This research of the integrity test in China was conducted by an attempt to validate the Employee Integrity Index (EII). One aim of this research was to examine the reliability and validity of the integrity test while another aim was to explore the correlations between integrity test and the Big-Five personality traits in China.The research consisted of three steps: As an initial step, an indepth interview was conducted by investigating 9 employees' conceptions of theft in 5 companies and the original EII scale was modified. The second step was a pre-test. One hundred and sixty-eight 168 employees were invited to fill out the modified EII scale. Based on the results, the scale was modified again. The final step was the main study. Two hundred employees were invited to fill out the scale and the correlations between integrity test and the Big-Five personality traits were examined. The results indicated that:(1) Due to great cultural differences between China and the West, the integrity test (EII) developed in America may fit for Chinese respondents after modification.(2) The modified integrity test had acceptable reliability, construct validity and clear sub-gene structure. However, this test needs to be further modified.(3) Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, and Openness dimensions of the Big-Five personality traits were found to have significant correlations with integrity test in China. Of these correlations, the Agreeableness and Conscientiousness had the most significant correlation with the integrity test.
