Shanxi, henan, anhui, jiangxi, hubei and hunan provinces are situated at the national central region, are the key positions of the national transportation. The area takes the possession of abundant energies and the mineral resources, has strong industrial background and plays a significant part in the national economic, political, cultural and social development. However, in recent years, the central region's economic development has presented the slow tendency, the integral development level falls behind the Eastern Area, and the gap between this region and the Western Area is increasingly closing. "The downfall of the central region" has become an unavoidable fact. One of the major causes to this problem is the unreasonable industrial structure and the layout of the central region. To optimize the industrial structure and the layout of China's central region, first of all, we should find out the existing problems. Currently, most of the scholars claim that the chief problems are that the central region's pillar industries are undefined, the convergence of the regional industrial structure is enhancing and the phenomenon of the homogenization of the industrial structure is serious. In order to further determine whether there is the convergence of the regional industrial structure, first of all, this thesis reveals the existing problems in the industrial structure and the layout through the quantitative and qualitative analysis, the reasons for these problems as well as the basical ways to solve these problems, namely, to enhance the industrial division and cooperation among the central region of China. And then, through the qualitative analysis, the author uses indicators to compare the six provinces' comparative advantages of the three industries and based on these analyses, finally comes to the conclusion of the directions and the overall ideas about the industrial development. And next, on the basis of the national and international experiences for regional industrial division and cooperation, the author further proves the necessity and possibility of the industrial division and cooperation in the central region of China.Currently, the regional economic development at home and abroad is increasingly revealing the integrated tendency; to achieve "win-win" in competition, the regional division and cooperation is prospective. And in this situation, the study about the industrial division and cooperation in the central region of China has both the universal theorical significances and practical guidance. In this thesis, the innovation points lie in the fact that the author combines the classic industrial economics' theories with the regional economics' theories as well as related international economics and trade's theories, what's more, the author integrates these combined theories into the research of the optimization of the industrial structure and the layout of China's central region; the author states a more comprehensive evaluation system of the convergence of the regional industry structure; the author also deeply analyzes the characteristics and the causes of the problems through quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. Next, this thesis quantitatively compares and researches the industrial gradient and the current conditions of the industrial structure of the six provinces, and based on their own circumstance, the author proposes the idea of the industrial division and cooperation between the central region of China, which has a great significance to the future research. In this thesis, the author uses a variety of analytical methods and related theories, eventually hopes it will make a difference in the development of the central region's economy.
