The study on the theory of competitiveness in tourist area started to take place only recently, and the researchs on competitive power of urban tourism just take its first step and need developing. In order to enrich this field, the author makes exact definitions of urban tourism and competitive power of urban tourism, and makes deep researches on affecting factors, through consulting many data abroad and domestic and applying the basic theories and methods of economics, urban science, tourism science and sustainable development. An index system of competitive power of urban tourism is set up based on certain principles, to evaluate competitive power of cities. AHP method is selected while building this index system. Using this index system, the author compares competitive power of Tianjin tourism with the other three cities from several levels to find out the problems of Tianjin tourism, then proposes the measures to improve competitive power of Tianjin tourism.The thesis consists of six parts.The first part is introduction, which aims at explaining the reasons for subject selection and the significance of the the study, and also providing a brief survey of the related studies at home and abroad.The second part deals with the theoretical basis of the study. After defining several relative conceptions, the author carries out interpretation of theories about competion, about contrast advantages, about sustainable development of tourism.The third part is to analyze affecting factors of competitive power of urban tourism, such as tourist resources and human resources, economic conditions, science and technology, tourism demand and so on. Then the author classifies the factors and create a model which including the six affecting factors as a whole system.In the fourth part, the author builds an evaluating system of competitive power of urban tourism, based on certain principles and theories mentioned above.Part five points out several main ways to enhance the competitive power of urban tourism.The sixth part is case study. In this part, the competitive power of Tianjin tourism is evaluated by the index system buit in the fourth part, through the comparison with Beijin, Dalian and Qingdao's urban tourism froms the aspects of competitive achievements and potential competitive power, supporting power of tourism environment and comprehensive competitive power of urban tourism. The problems in the development of Tianjin tourism are found out. And to solve these problems, four measures of improving competitive power are put forward at last.
