Recently, the container trades continue increasing and the development speed of container market presents an unprecedented trend, in which more large ships are built. As an important node of container transportation, the container teminals are affected in working efficiency, hardware facilities, route dencity, information level, etc. And many measures are carried out to improve the terminals' comprehensive working capacity to increase the handling capacity and attrave more container ships to enter berth working.The throughput of container can determine modern port's competing capacity to a certern extent. To meet the requirement of the ship maximuzation development and the ships of the sixth generations' berthing, the berths draft is continuously increased. For example, Yangshan port built the teminal on an irland which would have a throughput capacity of 10 million TEU. So, in the fierce competitive container shipping market, it is an important task to improve the throughput capacity of container for modern ports.In fact, it is a complex work to research the throughput capacity of container. In this article, the author combines the theory and practical experience of terminal work and does some research on container terminal of Dalian port. The content concludes present situation, existing problems, container throughput prediction, data analysis, utilization calculation, piling capacity calculation, measures for improvement, and standardized procedure design.
