Oil is using out. As a development way instead of oil chemical industry, coal chemical industry is very important in energy safety strategy. So government is paying more attention to coal chemical industry. It has been developed more and more fast. But as a new industry, it has some problem in the beginning, such as unreasonable using of resource, bad environment, more projects but less management and plans and so on. To make coal chemical industry fast, healthy and sustainable, we must assess the level of sustainable development effectively at first. Then government collaborates with enterprises to solve those problems. So the assessment to the level of sustainable development is very important, since it has the crucial effect of alert and guidance to the government and enterprises.Assessment of sustainable development is to assess the level of sustainable development in a district. It assesses the difference between the actual level and ideal level of sustainable development, meanwhile, it analyses the data to find the worse to guide our work.According to the characteristic of coal chemical industry, to create a target system for assessing the level of sustainable development and assess the coal chemical industry in our country now days for advance it, has a very practical meaning. According to the theory and method of sustainable development assessment, this paper will assess the level of the coal chemical industry in Erdos. This paper will create an assessment system for sustainable development of coal chemical industry including target level, rule level and variable level. It will use the AHP to gain the weight of every target. Then it will take the coal chemical industry in Erdos as an example to assess its sustainable development level. At the end, this paper will analyze the problems of coal chemical industry in China and give some suggestion to advance its development.
