A Study On The Sino-Thailand Economic And Trade Cooperation Under The Background Of Mekong Sub-regional Cooperation

Mekong sub-regional cooperation keeps up with the trend of the times of economic globalization and regional integration.It also plays a significant role in the aspects of economy, politics as well as security in the sub-region countries.Setting a high value on the regional cooperation and actively participating in it,China considers regional cooperation an important part in the co-building of free-trade area with ASEAN nations and an important support in the Development of the West Regions.Thailand,a country with most developed economy in the downstream of Mekong River,is an active urger in the sub-regional cooperation and also the biggest trade partner of China among the sub-regional cooperation countries.Thus the economic and trade cooperation between China and Thailand has great influence on the process of sub-regional cooperation.As a matter of fact,keeping and developing the economic and trade relations between these two countries has become a critical factor in maintaining the economic development and political stability in the region.This thesis aims to explore the current situation, existing problems and development prospect of Sino-Thailand economic and trade cooperation under the background of Mekong sub-regional cooperation.By applying theories in regional economic cooperation,positive approach as well as method of quantitative analysis,this thesis illustrates the cooperative mechanism and progress in the Mekong sub-region.This thesis also analyzes China and Thailand's strategic choices,the influence on the Sino-Thai economic trade cooperation and the role and status of China and Thailand in the sub-regional cooperation.The thesis lays emphasis on the study of current situation,existing problems and development prospect in the aspects of trade,investment and tourism,holding the viewpoint that Sino-Thai economic and trade relations can be effectively promoted and develop healthily under the following conditions:(1) to harmonize the bilateral economic and trade policies;(2) to improve the structures in import and export commodities;(3) to enhance China's enterprises' investment benefits in Thailand and(4) to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in agriculture and tourism.
