The researches on food security and land use/land cover change are frontiers and hot spots in agronomy and environmental science, and are important to the regional sustainable development. Jianghan Plain has superior natural conditions for agriculture, and its grain production takes a pivotal position in our country. However, rapid development of regional socio-economic stimulates that farmland use in this area changes more and more frequently and obviously, which affects grain production definitely, and it should be focused on.There are too much researches on grain production of Jianghan Plain involved the change, driving forces and suggestion. However, most of these researches which disused grain production in the view of land use change and food security respectively neglected the importance of landscape characteristics of farmland. In this paper, started with analyzing of landscape characteristics and the change of farmland use, we discuss how farmland use affects the comparative advantage of grain production of Jianghan Plain. In the research, based on 2000 and 2005 Landsat TM remote sensing images, also supported by GIS, we serve the use pattern and landscape characteristics of farmland of Jianghan Plain at first. Then, referring to "Statistical Yearbook of Hubei Agriculture", we get the data of grain production in 2000 and 2005, calculate the value of comparative advantage in the model that we have designed, discuss the results and draw conclusions. Finally, we look up into major driving forces and give some suggestion. Conclusions show that: (1) The change rate of farmland use and the comparative advantage of grain production has a positive correlation; (2) The more farmland transforms to other land use types, and the more balanced it distributes, the comparative advantage of grain production will drop the more significantly; (3) For landscape characteristics, if aggregate index and dominance index is higher, the comparative advantage of grain production will be more significant, and if fragmentation degree and fractal dimension is higher, the comparative advantage of grain production will be more unobvious.
