Since McClelland (1973),the Professor in Harvard University ,firstly proposed the concept of employee competency, there have been fruitful findings about employee competency. These studies include the concept and composition of employee competency, the classification of employee competency elements, the scale development and measurement, the relationship between employee competency and individual performance, improving the quality of products, high-performance human resources management, fulfilling the social responsibility. However, these researches on employee competency are not systematic empirical researches, neglect the research in specific industries and have not paid enough attention to employee competency of the agriculture business. The research on employee competency in the context of agriculture business in Jilin province has not been retrieved in the domestic and foreign academic journals.Studies on job involvement have been one of the most concerned topics. Since Lodahl and Kejner defined the concept of job involvement with psychological method in 1965, there have been already hundreds of related researches. The object of researches on job involvement are nurses, teachers, lawyers and so on, there are few researches on agriculture business staff in China. The research on job involvement in the context of agriculture business in Jilin province has not been retrieved in the domestic and foreign academic journals. In addition, Brown (1996) analysis the factors impacting job involvement. The conclusions are that motive, knowledge and skills are significantly correlated with the job involvement and social role is not significantly correlated with the job involvement. Zhou Wenxia and Li Bo (2006) found that organizational career management is positively correlated with the job involvement, through the research of Chinese enterprises. Many studies have shown that taking appropriate employee career management activities have a positive impact on employee competency, such as motive, knowledge and skills. Therefore, it can be shown that employee competency is significantly correlated with the job involvement.So, we can infer that there is a relationship between employee competency and job involvement. However, the direction and extent of the impact are still unknown. At the same time, based on the particularity of the region in Jilin Province, it should be made clear that the relationship between the dimensions of employee competency and job involvement. Therefore, this paper studies two issues: firstly, the scales of employee competency and job involvement are equally applicable in agriculture business of china or not. Secondly, if applicable, then use the scale to test employee competency has significant positive effect on the job involvement or not.Based on these theories, the study set six independent variables and a dependent variable. Independent variables include employee competency, motive, trait, self-image, social role, knowledge and skills; dependent variable includes job involvement. Based on the research on the relationship between employee competency and job involvement, the author has raised the following 6 basic hypotheses:H1: employee competency has significant positive effect on the job involvement.H2: motive has significant positive effect on the job involvement.H3: knowledge and skills have significant positive effect on the job involvement.H4: social role has significant positive effect on the job involvement.H5: trait has significant positive effect on the job involvement.H6:self-image has significant positive effect on the job involvement. This research is systematic empirical researches with questionnaire survey. This paper bases on the employee competency scale and the job involvement scale, designs questionnaire in accordance with the characteristics of agriculture business in Jilin Province, adopts stratified random sampling method。The author hands out 500 copies of the questionnaire and gets 426 samples. The effective questionnaire recovery rate is 85.2%.Then SPSS For Windows 14.0 is used to analyze the data,including reliability and validity analysis of the scale,descriptive analysis, T tests, variance analysis, skewness and kurtosis analysis ,correlation analysis and regression analysis. The results demonstrate the followings:1. The scales of employee competency and job involvement are equally applicable in agriculture business of china.2. Employee competency has significant positive effect on the job involvement.3. Motive has significant positive effect on the job involvement.4. Knowledge and skills has significant positive effect on the job involvement.5. Trait has significant positive effect on the job involvement.6. Social role has not significant positive effect on the job involvement.7. Self-image has not significant positive effect on the job involvement.This conclusion explains that the scales of trait, self-image and social role are from foreign scholars'research, but the guiding ideology and concept of employee competency can still be used to guide agriculture business of Jilin Province. Employee competency, motive, trait, knowledge and skills have significant positive effect on the job involvement, but self-image and social role have not significant positive effect on the job involvement.There is great theoretical and realistic significance in this thesis as a whole. But this study still has some limitations because of the time, space, funding for research and other constraints. First, the samples are limited. The samples are only selected in agriculture business of Changchun City and no other cities of Jilin Province. Therefore, the limitation of the samples has inevitable effect on the statistical results.Second, the scales used in this study are mostly from foreign scholars'research results. Because of the characteristics of agriculture business in Jilin Province, we should design and development the scales in accordance with their own specificities to reflect the actual situation of agriculture business in Jilin Province more accurately.Third, the object of research remains to be further broken down. There are not researches on the relationship between employee competency and job involvement at different levels of employee. This limitation can be used as directions for future research, to make the theory about the relationship between employee competency and job involvement more complete.
