This dissertation focuses on Zhanjiang's industrial development in the context industrial convergence.Industrial convergence is a process during which the competition, collaboration and convolution between the essential elements composing different industries occur due to the emergence and diffusion of newness and with the result of a new industry forming in the open industry system. With the time goes on, industrial convergence becomes more and more evident and is bringing profound impacts upon the world in terms of economy, life and society. This dissertation constructs a theoretical framework on the basis of the relevant literature, which analyzes emphatically the motive, evolution and effect in the course of industrial convergence in late-developing locations and guides Zhanjiang to upgrade its industrial structure. It gets four main results.Firstly, industrial convergence is the results of technology innovation, deregulation and modulization. Secondly, the dissertation tries to analyze the traditional industrial organization theory and reconstructed an organizational theory model which can be used and adopted to explain different micro economic foundation through the analysis of the value chain theory and the modulization theory.Thirdly, based on the advantage of backwardness for industrial convergence,it's possible for late-developing locations to catch up with pre-developed locations. The government needs to construct a kind of rigid institutional system to restrict government, firms and households effectively,to make people be more confident of the institution in the future. In the end, based on above analyses, the dissertation provides the policy measures for improving industrial convergence for Zhanjiang.
