A Spatial Analysis Of Provincial Economic Convergence In China

Whether regional economic is convergent is always a hot topic in the academic field,but there has been no definite view.After the Chinese economic reform,the economic development of our country moved at a fast pace.Due to the huge disparity in the regional economic zone,China's economic were hindered.Does regional convergence exist in China? Are the carried out strategies affecting the economic development? What measures are needed to be taken in order to reduce the disparity in the regional economic zone? This paper will answer a series of question in a theoretical approach.Literatures about economic convergence are very rich.But literature rarely research on the impact of important strategies to reduce the disparity of regional economic.This paper will analyze the economic convergence based on "Chinese economic reform","Western development" and "issues concerning agriculture and countryside."This paper has four chapters.The first chapter is introduction.It puts forward the theoretical and realistic meaning of researching on provincial economic convergence. The second chapter's contents are based on neo-classical theory.Then it also summarizes documents that are related to economic convergence inside the country. There are also introductions of some important concept.The third chapter discusses the developmental process and general theory of spatial economic.The fourth chapter analyzes the economic convergence in our country,and put forward related suggestions based on the issue.Empirical results indicate that the provincial economic has a weak absolute convergence between 1952 and 2007.The coastal and non-coastal region has significant club convergence.From a strategic view,there is significant absolute convergence and club convergence amongst provincial economic in our country. However,"Western development" did not quicken the speed of regional economic convergence.But the "issues concerning agriculture and countryside" augment significantly the speed of regional economic convergence.According to the results of empirical study,this paper put forward some effective measures to construct a harmonious society.
