In recent years, the mental model used in the study of management has been paid more and more attention by the relevant academics. Mental model which is an inner statement of realistic or imaginary is originated from psychology and related with gender, age, education, and other factors closely. Therefore, everyone has a different mental model. When mental model is applied in the study of management, business could be looked as a whole. It is believed that the business owns mental model, which is called shared mental model. It is the result of the interaction of mental models of the staff. Shared mental model of enterprises is not a natural formation, and it can be guided and controlled by enterprise regulations, training and other factors. This thesis is designed to help enterprises to achieve good CI early warning functions based on mental model.This article integrating the mental model, competitive intelligence and early warning for discussion is intended to structure a shared mental model of enterprise with sense of crisis, and establish CI early-warning model. The full text is divided into four parts:Chapter I: The history and current status of research of mental model, competitive intelligence, early warning management, as well as the combination of them are introduced in this part. It includes the origin, research and development stage of mental model, from the earliest application of cognitive psychology to the present application of computers, economics, management and other fields. The author also introduces early warning from the initial development of military applications to management purposes, and describes more powerful warning with the combination of competitive intelligence. Finally, the significance, ideas, features and innovation of this article are indicated.Chapter II: The detailed information on the basic theory of mental models, including the management connotation and meaning of mental model, contents and characteristics of employees' mental models is introduced. The authour also analyzes the structure and influencing factors of employees' mental models. This chapter focuses on formation process, cultivating means, and influencing factors of enterprise shared mental model.Chapter III: The related contents of competitive-intelligence early-warning mechanism are discussed. The author points out that competitive intelligence and crisis management, in particular, the early warning mechanism, have close relationship, and also emphasizes competitive intelligence is an important means to achieve early warning function. The institutions, staffing and work flow of crisis-oriented competitive intelligence are introduced in this chapter.Chapter IV: Combining with the contents of the first two parts, it firstly indicates the steps to establish early-warning-crisis-oriented business shared mental model, including the identification of early-warning objectives and foster shared mental model with a sense of crisis, which can be finished by strengthening regulations and effective training. Then, the author discusses how to establish early warning system, including the selection of indicators and the establishment of the model. The final business CI early-warning model can be used universally. In addition, the indicating factors should be adjusted by each enterprise according to its own situation.
