As Socio-economic development and particularly economic sustainable growth are threatened by natural disasters, each government has to attach importance to the study of Disaster Economics. China is one of the minority countries which disasters are very serious in the world. Frequent occurrences of natural disasters have become an important factor in our country's economic growth. Therefore, this article analyzes the short-term and long-term impacts of natural disasters on our country's economic growth from the perspective of the theory of economic growth, which has a great practical significance in understanding the impacts of natural disasters on economic growth and formulating the loss prevention and post-disaster reconstruction policies.In the first part, the thesis introduces the current research about the impacts of natural disasters on economic growth inside and outside in the literature summary. Then, in the second part, the thesis introduces the theory of economic growth and defines the meaning of economic growth.In the third part, the thesis analyzes the impacts of natural disasters on economic growth from the theoretical perspective. Firstly, it explains some concepts about disaster economics; secondly, it analyzes the short-term and long-term impacts of natural disasters on economic growth and the transmission mechanism; finally, it analyzes the factors of natural disasters affecting economic growth.In the fourth part, the thesis analyzes the impacts of natural disasters on the economic growth from the empirical perspective. Firstly, it introduces the reality of natural disasters in our country; secondly, it makes the empirical research about the impacts of natural disasters on our country's economic growth with the use of Harrod-Domar model, and its result is that the economic growth rate when natural disasters happen is lower than the economic growth rate when natural disasters don't happen; finally, through the actual data analysis, it turns up that natural disasters have adverse effects on the short-term economic growth, while have limited impacts on the long-term economic growth. Finally, the author puts forward some strategies and recommendations to reduce the adverse impacts of natural disasters on the economic growth, such as the change in the mode of economic growth, disaster prevention, the use of financial instruments for natural disaster risk managements and so on.
