China and Japan are in extremely important positions in Northeast Asia and the world at large. Japan has strength in economy, with advanced technology and a lot of capital. As a developing country, China has a large number of labor, resources and vast market. And China has undergone sound, sustainable and enormous changes on the economic area in recent years, and she is increasingly attracted the attention of the world. Moreover, China and Japan are neighbors and the relationships between the two countries are very close in long time in terms of cultural and trade. They both occupy the important positions in the East Asia and the relationship between the two countries has the significant influence to the East Asia economic development. In recent years, with Sino-Japanese trade development, the trend of relationship between two economies is shifting from the complementary to interdependence. In this process, trade frictions and disputes will happen. During increasingly global economic integration and regional economic integration, discussing the trade complementarity between the two parties has great significance for us to make the correct foreign trade policy, avoiding and resolving trade frictions and disputes and promoting Sino-Japan trade cooperation in future.First of all,in the first chapter we analyze the theoretical basis and the measurements to study the complementarity in Sino-Japanese trade. This paper adopts the traditional international trade theory, the intra-industry trade theory and the trade complementary theory. The means of the paper we utilize the trade combined degrees, the comparative advantages index and Trade Complementary index and so on.In the second chapter, we analyze the trade situation of the China and Japan respectively and the situation between China and Japan. Sino-Japanese trade has developed rapidly, but there are two different trends. From the data, the dependency of Japan to China is increasing, while the dependency of China to Japan is gradually reducing. And this chapter sums up the main four issues between China and Japan in the current trade structure. In the third chapter, the trade between China and Japan is analyzed empirically by the means of TCD, RCA and TSC. According to Standard International Trade Classification (SITC), the systematic analysis of trade complementarity between China and Japan and the reasons of the results of the empirical analysis are made. Then in accordance with previous analysis, we draw the conclusions. Finally, we give a number of recommendations of the promotion to the trade situation and cooperation between China and Japan. The ultimate aim is to avoid conflicts, make full use of favorable factors, promote bilateral trade development, constantly open up new areas of cooperation and make the two parties in particular China befit from the growing trade.
