Analyses On The Charateristics And Causes Of The Variations Of Energy Intensity In Jiangsu Province

Jiangsu province is one of the most powerful provinces in economy as well as an energy consumption province in China. But the reserves of energy resources in Jiangsu are poor and away from the affluent areas. The energy and resources needed in the rapid economic development rely mainly on importing at home and abroad. With the continuous and rapid economic development, the imbalance of energy supply and demand become prominent. The problem of energy restraints has seriously affected the sustainable development of Jiangsu economy, however, it has not drawn close attention of the whole society. These problems are still more serious, such as the inefficiency of energy use, energy wasting, and high energy intensity, etc.. The research takes the energy intensity of Jiangsu Province as an object, so as to further ascertain the characteristics of energy intensity, to clarify the vicissitude mechanism of energy intensity and to broaden the research field. It also has very important theoretical value and practical significance for reducing energy consumption and easing the energy restraints.The research is based on the related statistical data of the regional economic development of Jiangsu Province and is directed by energy economy theory, industrial economics as well as the modern statistical methods. The thesis extracts the latest production of the energy economics and energy intensity both nationally and internationally and then uses all kinds of methods such as quantitative and qualitative analysis, transverse and longitudinal analysis, canonical and demonstrative analysis to study the vicissitude characteristics of energy intensity and the vicissitude tendency. And also, the research analyses the causes of energy intensity vicissitude of Jiangsu Province from some influence factors, including economic and energy structures and social factors, etc..The research shows the energy intensity vicissitude are noticeablely decreasing, and the absolute value has been dropped from 4.77 ton of standard coal for ten thousands yuan to 1.52 ton of standard coal for ten thousands yuan. From the energy intensity and energy consumption relations, it discovers the growth rate of energy intensity is in conformity with the growth rate of energy consumption. From the decomposition of energy intensity, it finds the efficiency share accounts largely for various causing factors, but the structural share affects little. According to the research, some feasible suggestions are made to reduce energy intensity, such as conserving energy resources, reducing energy consumption, promoting energy efficiency, adjusting the industrial structure, optimizing energy structure, promoting low-carbon consumption and so on.
