Characteristics And Influencing Factors Of Farmers' Part-time Production

Farmer has got great rights on production management since the reform and opening-up in China. With the process of industrialization and urbanization, the phenomenon of part-time production going to be more and more general. The same time, type of farmer changed to diversification form single. According to the different degree of part-time production, farmer can be divided into pure farmer, mainly-agricultural farmer, mainly-non-agricultural farmer and non-agricultural farmer. In order to guidance and different types of farmer correctly, It is significant to research the characteristic and factors contributing to farmer type being altered by part-time production.This research is base on the data of field investigation and deep interview to 129 farmers from 6 villages in Fuyang county, Zhejiang province. In the beginning of the research, several factors such as villages, human and labor force, agriculture product, and rural land transfer has been descripted. Secondly, we analyze characteristics of the farmer type alternative. Thirdly,4 binary Logistic model has been established to analyze the elements contributing to type part-timing production alternative of pure farmer, mainly-agricultural farmer, mainly-off-agricultural farmer and non-agricultural farmer. At last a series of conclusions are acquired.In aspect of the characteristics, several conclusions are acquired. Firstly, part-time production alternative goes uneven in different regions; Secondly, part-time product farmer works longer; Thirdly, level of industry goes the same direction with the degree of part-time production; Fourthly, It is a symbol phenomenon that "farmer going to be non-agriculture who leaves from hometown" and "farmer won't leave from hometown even if non-agriculture production"; Fifthly, even the agricultural scale is reduced to farmer's by part-time production, but to individual agricultural labor force, it is improved; Sixthly, the higher degree of part-time production to be accompanied by younger labor force with higher education. In aspect of the factors which is contributing to the farmer type alternative, factors from the elements of villages, human and labor force, agriculture product, and rural land transfer pass the significant test, which means there are some factors are contributed to the farmer type alternative.Some inspiration can be got by the conclusion. Firstly, local government should analyze the resource and level of economic development serious, make policies to guide farmer part-time production correctly. Secondly, reinforce the education and training which is useful to enhance the ability of labor force. Thirdly, consummate the system of rural land transfer, promote the rural land usage right flowing healthily. Fourthly, consummate the rural social system, and reinforce the care to children. Fifthly, to the farmer itself, characteristics of agriculture production is necessary to think over while making the decision of part-time production.
