Tourist flows are the core issue of tourism geography's research, which have been paid attention by scholars related for a long time. However, there are still some deficiency in the characteristics of the inbound tourist flow about spatial distribution and the transfer mainly for the following:First, the main research method is not systematic, but mainly qualitative analysis and statistical analysis; Second, there are more research on inbound tourist market than study on the tourist flow between destination; Third, the empirical research on the transfer of tourist flow for specific destinations is not much. Comprehensive study on the characteristics of the spatial distribution and transfer about inbound tourist flows will help to clarify the evolution of tourism destination market structure and the law of the tourist flow transfer between destinations. Which position the objective tourism markets scientifically and lay down the strategies of marketing development reasonably. In recent years, Hangzhou's inbound tourism has developed rapidly, but there is a great distance from the completion of "an international tourism city". At the same time, Hangzhou's inbound tourism faces a contradiction between fierce market competition and sustainable development. Therefore, it is important to position Hangzhou's inbound tourist markets that study the characteristics of the spatial distribution and transfer. That is an important part in developing inbound tourism market effectively in Hangzhou. In this study, the research object is the spatial distribution of Hangzhou's inbound tourist flows and the space shift. According to the data that are from the Overview of Hangzhou Tourism, China Tourism Statistical Yearbook, inbound tourism survey in Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, the West Lake scenic spots and tourist distribution centers and other places in 2008, and so on, the characteristics of Hangzhou's inbound tourism flows about the spatial distribution and transfer was analyzed in an integrated vertical and horizontal viewing by use of geographic concentration index, attract radius, competitive state, pro-King degree, shift-share analysis and other indicators and methodologies. Based on the above-mentioned study, the relevant strategies were proposed for developing inbound tourism market in Hangzhou. The self-attractive and external competitiveness of tourist destination can be analyzed through studies on the characteristics of the spatial distribution of inbound tourism flows. The spatial distribution of Hangzhou inbound tourist flows is changing. Mainly as following:First, form the spatial distribution of tourist source region, the tourist attraction radius is gradually expanded, the stability of tourist market is constantly improved, the absolute attraction of destination is steadily promoted. Second, from the spatial distribution of tourist flow between destinations, the differences in external competitiveness of Hangzhou tourism market are obviously. The tourism market of South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand is most competitive in the all inbound tourists source regions, the competitive advantage of the United States and other long-range market is not prominent, while the tourism market of Singapore, Malaysia, Macao and others is weakest in all the markets. Policy decisions can be made for Hangzhou relevant department through integrating the feature of dynamic changes in the spatial distribution of tourism source regions and destinations, and reasonable locating Hangzhou inbound tourism target market. The correlation degree of developing inbound tourism between destinations can be analyzed by research on the spatial transfer characteristics of inbound tourist after entering China. Short-range visitors mainly choose to entry China in Hangzhou and Shanghai, while the long-haul visitors like to enter in Shanghai and Beijing. Short-range visitors mainly visit the cities that are concentrated in the Yangtze River Region, this visitation belong to a single regional short-haul travel. But the long-range visitors are mainly choosing to travel in Shanghai, Beijing, Xi'an, Guilin, Suzhou and other big cities or tourist resource-rich city, this visitation belong to cross-regional long-distance tourism; In the development of short-range market, Hangzhou has a close relationship with Shanghai, Suzhou, Huangshan, Nanjing and other cities, while in the development of long-range market, Hangzhou and Shanghai, Beijing, Xi'an and Guilin are closely linked. The spatial distribution of inbound tourism flows and the transfer is a complex area of research, this study made some attempts in the following areas.1. This study expands the ideas and methods of the spatial distribution of inbound tourist flow by use of geographic concentration index, attract radius, competitive state, pro-King degree, shift-share analysis and other indicators and methodologies from systematic analysis of vertical and horizontal viewing.2. Combining the characteristics of the spatial distribution and transfer of tourist flow. They are important in research on tourist flow and interrelated with each other. The study on characteristics of the spatial distribution of tourist flow is conducive to grasp the evolution of tourist market and segment trends. In addition, the research on the characteristics of tourist flow transfer will help to analyze the degree of association between destinations. A comprehensive analysis of them is conducive to grasp the laws of tourist flow systematically.3. According to spatial distribution of inbound tourism flows, the inbound tourism target markets can be positioned and the development of targeted primary source markets strategies can be proposed; at the same time, the co-operation objectives and regional tourism co-operator can be reasonable located according to the transfer characteristics of inbound tourism flow. In order to further expand inbound tourism market of destination, we can make full use of the above-mentioned the role of second-hand source region. All these put forward new ideas for developing inbound tourism market.
