Research On Third Part Logistics Developing Strategy Of Lanzhou West Railway Station

With the rapid development of road and air transportation in recent years, rail transportation is faced with fierce competition for the share of the logistic market. How to take initiatives to survive the competition and develop themselves has become the focus of the rail transport enterprises. A review of the development, patterns and trends of the modern logistics reveals that the Third Party Logistics (TPL) is the best choice for the rail transport businesses to lead the market.Based on the freight transport of the Lanzhou West Railway Station, the present thesis conducts a research on the feasibility of the TPL in freight transport at railway stations from six perspectives. The methods employed are literature review, surveys, a case study and a comparison study. Its first part consists of the necessity of the research and the research methodology adopted. It also includes an analysis of the status quo and the trend of the rail transport both at home and abroad. The second part introduces the concept of the TPL and its service modes, indicating the inevitability of the TPL in freight transport. The third part discusses the logistic facts of the Lanzhou West Railway Station, with the emphasis on some problems existing in organizing the freight transport. The fourth part makes a thorough analysis of the internal and external environment for the TPL at the Station from the political, economical, social, and technological and competition angles. The fifth part applies the SWOT to analyze the TPL, pointing out the TPL is the strategic choice for the Station on the way to a comprehensive logistic enterprise. The sixth part discusses measures to implement the TPL at the Station, including reform of its freight transport organization, the revision of its rules and regulations, the intensification of the marketing strategies, the upgrading of the services, the strengthening of the contact with clients, the completion of information network and the improvement of the personnel quality.The originality of the present thesis is that it points out the TPL is the development trend for freight transport at the railway stations and proposes the concrete measures to implement the TPL.
