Regional Socio-economic Development Analysis Based On Multidimensional Scaling

Based on the"Eleventh Five-Year Plan"is about to end while"Twelfth Five-Year Plan"will start, in this paper, I made provincial socio-economic development evaluation model as research project, which has positive significance.First of all, I summed up the previous literature on the socio-economic development indicators system of theory and results. Based on the previous research results, I established index system principles. Taking the hierarchy decomposition, I selected 25 initial variables gradually from the economic development level and the dynamic economic development, namely, economic development, social development, living standards, ecological environment specifically. At the same time, this paper proposed the definition of economic development strength. Then the correlation analysis is applied, excluding the extraordinary relevance of indicator variables. Finally, this paper determined 18 indicator variables as the evaluation index system, reducing the target variable. Further use of multidimensional scaling theory and ideology (including multidimensional preference analysis, multidimensional scaling method), this paper made principal component analysis. By the cumulative contribution rate of 84.641%, this paper obtained four principal components and multidimensional preference analysis plot and two-dimensional state space diagram in order to gain intuitive analysis of the provincial socio-economic development pattern similarities and differences, advantages and other important indicators of the region's information content. While compared with the results of China's provincial competitiveness Blue Book"economic competitiveness of provinces in China Development Report (2008 ~ 2009)"published by China Academy of Social Sciences, the results by multidimensional scaling combined with the GDP evaluation results, I come to conclusion to determine the feasibility of comprehensive evaluation index system and superiority to pure GDP evaluation. Based on the findings, considering the current relevant policy theory and actual situation, this paper make assessment of economic development of the 31 provinces and cities.
