A Study On Economic Transition Of Datong

Datong was known as a coal-oriented city in Shanxi province of China, which has made great contributions to Chinese economic construction. According to statistics, Datong has exported more than two billion tons of coal and it has provided a powerful support for the economic construction and development in the eastern region since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Meanwhile, Datong also confronted serious problems, such as resource depletion, environmental pollution and etc, which have had an effect on sustainable economic development. Therefore, it is an inevitable trend for taking implementation of economic construction transition. Recently, the issue of resource-based cities has been gradually obvious in our county, so more and more scholars and experts has studied resource-based cities from different respects, proposing a number of measures and suggestions about the transition of resource-based cities. Datong has made some partial adjustments on the basis of previous transition theory. However, there are still a large distances away from realizing the transition of industrial construction. Based on Regional Economics, Resources Economics and other theories, the study adopts literature review, quantitative analysis and other research methods to make in-depth research on Datong, and then analyzes the components of the industrial structure, pointing out the irrational economic situation.At the same time it also uses SWOT analysis to do a comparative analysis of internal strengths, internal weaknesses, external opportunities, and external threats in Datong's economic development. With this analysis, some suggestions on economic transition of Datong are put forward in order to provide a scientific basis for economic transition of Datong.To begin with, this paper elaborates on theory of resources-based city transition, and analyses some successful cases at home and abroad to obtain meaningful experience. Then, after analyzing the economic situation in Datong, the paper draw a conclusion that there exists some problems in Datong, for example, the industrial structure and the proportion of the coal industry are irrational, human resource shortages and environmental degradation are serious. Finally, the paper put forward measures and suggestions of transition based on existing experience and the actual situation of Datong.By analyzing the economic structure in Datong, this paper obtain the following results:the economic structure is irrational, of which the proportion of the coal industry is so large that it's necessary to take action to make transition as early as possible; in the process of the economic transition, the advantages and constraints are coexist, so the transition should be arranged reasonably in accordance with its advantages and disadvantages; some targeted transitive suggestions and measures are raised in light of reality; in addition, according to the present coal resources that have been trapped in plight, this paper also arrive at a compound transitive mode, that is, the economic transition of Datong must combine industrial extension and industrial replacement.
