Development Of Modern Service Industry In Chongqing

Per capita GDP of Chongqing in 2007 broke through 2000 U.S. dollars into the service, especially the rapid rise of the modern service industry stage. Developing modern service industry in Chongqing plays an important role in such aspects as carrying forward manufacturing advantages for Chongqing, changing the mode of economic development, promoting the development of low-carbon economy, accelerating the establishment of conservation-oriented industry model, solving the employment problem, creating a harmonious society and building the "five in Chongqing" target. Therefore, to explore the development of modern service industry in Chongqing has a positive practical significance. Besides, there is no definitely concept to the modern service industry at present so that to explore issues related to the development of modern service industry has a positive theoretical significance to the establishment of the modern service theory.This paper, taking the Marxist political economy and service economy as the theoretical basis, gives definition of the modern service industry through the synthesis and interpretation of the relevant theory, which is a new area of the national economy along with the development of information technology and knowledge-based economy, in the form of transforming and elevating the service industry, creating demand, guiding consumers to the community to provide high value-added, high-level, knowledge-based production services and life services with a modern new technologies, new form and new services way. It further clarifies the connotation and extension about the concept of the service industry and modern service industry. It studies the status of the development of modern service industry in Chongqing as well as problems it is facing, selecting Statistical Yearbook of the time series and cross-section sequence of Chongqing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Sichuan as the origin of data, adopting integrated various analysis methods. Analysis found that Chongqing is currently undergoing a very rapid stage of industrialization but its development still comes up many problems. The development of service industry has been weakened. The modern service industry is still relatively weak in spite of rapid developing speed. Traditional services are still the mainstream of the service industry in Chongqing. Some modern representations of the service sector industry, the financial sector, business services and so on, are under full development. The analysis also shows that the level of development of modern service industry survives a large gap with the eastern developed areas and even a certain gap with the adjacent Sichuan. The paper discussed the development of modern service industry in Chongqing, equipping the top five advantages and six disadvantages as well as three major opportunities and four items of challenges with the use of SWOT paradigm. Finally, the paper puts forward some proper suggestions and measures to develop modern service industry in Chongqing, including the overall direction, developing thought, increase the proportion of modern service industry in the system of modern service industry, accelerate the introduction of shortage of personnel training, strengthen the integration of modern service industry and manufacturing industries, develop and nurture influential brand enterprises and enterprise groups, promote the spatial layout of the development of modern service industry in Chongqing to achieve rationalization, optimize the environment for the development of modern service industry and other initiatives.The paper does a comparatively comprehensive study to the development of modern service industry in Chongqing, on the basis of scientific theory and data availability to make an exploration in defining connotation and extension of modern service industry, adopting appropriate statistics, quantitative research and comparative analysis. However, this paper, lacking of specific statistical data on the modern service industry and failing to use mathematical modeling, results in possible bias in accurate measurement state of development of modern service industry.
