In order to develop multi-functional paper-making additives, a series of copolymers of N-vinylformamide(NVF) and diallyldimethylammonium chloride (DADMAC) were synthesized with 2,2'-azobis(isobutyramidine) dihydrochloride (AIBA-2HCl) as the initiator in aqueous solution。The effects of various reaction factors such as initiator concentration, mass fraction of monomers and their ratio, reaction temperature and time on the polymerization process and the properties of the products were discussed in detail by the weight method, colloid titration and viscosity method. The preferable polymerization conditions were:n(NVF)/n(DADMAC)-7/3,ω(monomers)=20%,θ=60℃,ω(initiator)=0.1%. The product was characterized by FTIR and DSC, the results indicated the polymerization of NVF and DADMAC. The weight-average molecular weight of some copolymers were determined by laser light scattering method. The influence of polymer concentration, temperature, organic content, salt content and structure of the copolymer on the viscosity of PNVF-DA aqueous solution were investigated. Finally, the effect of drainage and retention of the copolymers in the papermaking process and the flocculation in simulated white water were discussed. |
