China Modern Furniture Modeling

The development of the Chinese-style modern furniture, can make Chinese furniture establishing brand and improving competitiveness in world furniture market, revive traditional Chinese furniture magnificence, and promote economic development. The Chinese-style modern furniture can meet the demands of modern people who love Chinese culture in life style and aesthetic, lead modernization of the Chinese traditional culture. The Chinese-style modern furniture exist many imperative problems, such as modeling design mostly simply imitate traditional furniture modeling elements, while ignoring the cultural connotation behind the Chinese traditional furniture. This article falls on the modeling, a practical problem, discuss the modeling design of the Chinese-style modern furniture, starting from the impact of the Chinese culture on the furniture modeling.The article has briefly summarized the works that domestic and international academic education, business and design study the Chinese traditional furniture and the Chinese-style modern furniture, explains the connotation of the Chinese-style modern furniture, discusses the three levels of the Chinese-style modern furniture at present. Through the analysis of the concept of the "modeling" and the relation between the modeling and the culture, the main part of the paper is the analysis of the impact of the Chinese culture on the furniture modeling:the impact of the Chinese traditional architectures on the modeling of the Chinese traditional furniture, the impact of the Chinese ideology on the Chinese traditional furniture, the impact of the Chinese contemporary interior living situation and China interior culture on the Chinese-style modern furniture, the impact of Chinese contemporary aesthetic standards and technologies of modern furniture on the Chinese-style modern furniture. The article focuses on the studies of the modeling of the Chinese-style modern furniture, the paper firstly describes the form of the Chinese traditional furniture and the modeling's characters, summarizes the modeling's elements of the Chinese traditional furniture, contracts to the western furniture's modeling, find out the relation between the Chinese traditional furniture and the western modern furniture, then contraposing the three levels of the Chinese-style modern furniture, discourses upon the designing methods of the Chinese-style modern furniture based on the modeling's elements of the Chinese traditional furniture, as the archaizing, scattering and restructuring, purifying. Then the article discusses the design methods of the modern Chinese-style furniture based on the cultural connotation of the Chinese traditional furniture, following on the design of the modern Chinese-style furniture methods based on the area among modeling's elements of the Chinese traditional furniture and the cultural connotation of the Chinese traditional furniture, mainly about the application of the typology. Finally author makes a design practice comprehensively using the design methods and the ideas of the modern Chinese-style furniture discussed above.Through above researches, the article concludes that:to improve the modern Chinese-style furniture, Chinese architectures and interior culture and the modern Chinese-style furniture should develop together, the Chinese contemporary lifestyle belong to the Oriental culture should be established. To design the Chinese-style modern furniture, we could base on the Chinese furniture system, take the Chinese traditional furniture's modeling as female parent, study western advanced technologies and idea of furniture design, and know how to satisfy the Chinese modern architecture, interior culture, Chinese contemporary life style and aesthetic requirements. Chinese traditional ideology caused Chinese unique spiritual pursuits and aesthetics, the ideology-as the thought of "Ritual system", the thought of "United the nature and humanity", the thought of "Both having decoration and inbeing", the thought of "The theory of Yin and Yang-virtual and actual, dynamic and static", the thought of "The golden mean-the moderate beauty"-is reflected in Chinese traditional furniture, there are some main features like linear application, furniture space building, structure namely decoration, brief modeling, the complex and simplified decoration, reasonable proportion, attention to detail design, etc. As long as using the features and the idea of Chinese traditional furniture in the modern Chinese-style furniture design, we can inherit cultural connation of Chinese traditional furniture and make innovations. The "antitype" principle of the Typology method base on the model features of Chinese traditional furniture, the purpose is not just furniture style, but the continuation of historical traditional culture, and search for the bonding point of tradition and modern times. Therefore Typology method can design the modern Chinese-style furniture both based on the Chinese traditional furniture's modeling and cultural connation of the Chinese traditional furniture.
